Even though the event of a Communion is important, there are still some people who are not familiar with the what and the how of Holy Communion.
The Holy Communion is representative of when Jesus had his communion fellowships with his disciples. One famous example of this communion or gathering would be the Last Supper.
The Communion is also known by another name, which is the Eucharist. It represents as a sort of "thanksgiving." The Communion represents how a Christian is able to hear, taste, touch, and receive the grace of the Lord through Jesus Christ, his son.
In a Holy Communion celebration, all the elements stand for something else. For example, you have the bread and the wine. Here, the bread is taken to represent the body of Jesus.
When the priest breaks the bread, this goes on to symbolize the fact that Jesus sacrificed his life to save humankind, by doing so he cleansed humanity from sin.
As it progressed before, it saw a partial decline for several years; however, today it has steadily gained ground and a staple in today's practices.
The Catholic Church has admitted children, ranging from seven and eight, to a first communion. This usually comes before the Confirmation, which is usually done during teenage years. The parish priest is usually the one that can recommend a child for a Communion.
Ultimately, the parents have the last say in the matter and when they think their child would be ready.
A Holy Communion is a special event, and thus, it requires several tools and materials. You can find plenty of communion sets that are used by people in the clergy in different denominations.
Of course, communions are not just limited for the children, in fact, any person who wants to accept Christ can go ahead and partake of the Communion. There are times when the need for an on-the-spot Communion is called for.
Because of this, portable communion sets are available for sale. These portable sets can be carried around and used without hassle.
Back in the day, communion sets were made from expensive silver and were never mass produced. A traditional set were composed of a chalice or cup, a paten, a cruet, and a pyx. All of these are important to the Communion.
For example, a pyx is a small round container that is used to store the Host during a Communion. A cruet is like a small bottle or flask, used to contain the wine representing the blood of Christ.
Then, you have the paten, which is a small, usually silver plate that is used to hole the Eucharistic bread. Then, of course, there is the cup or the chalice which is intended to hold the drink. During the Communion, this is filled with wine.
All of these things are important to a Holy Communion. This celebration is essential to people's lives as a Christian.
With the help of the Communion sets, we are able to live under the loving grace of the Lord once again.
